Hanging weight vs. finished weight

Defining the terminology may seem confusing at first, but we’ll walk you through it.

Hanging weight refers to the weight of the cow once it’s been slaughtered and dressed for aging. An average hanging weight for a whole cow is about 610 pounds. Once cut and packaged the final product is called the finished weight, which yields about 430 pounds of meat. Finished weights will vary based on the custom order and the unique characteristics of the animal.

Ordering is as simple as 1, 2, 3:

  1. Give us a call at (716) 903-5843 to let us know you’re interested in buying beef. Beef is sold on a first-come, first-served basis.
  2. If you would like a half or whole cow order, we fill out a cut sheet together and give you an estimate of our schedule for pickup here at the farm or delivery to your house. Here’s a handy diagram of the different beef cuts for reference.
  3. Payment is due at the time of delivery and we welcome cash or checks.
